Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas!!to all visitors to this blog and members of Team Action alike!

As I type this message I can visualise ham, pork, turkey, cake etc. baking in ovens all across the Caribbean....drinks, some sweet, some strong chilling in freezers and eager children some dreaming of the next morning, others trying to de-mystify Santa Claus with a midnight vigil .Yes these are the things of Christmas, but Team Action asks you to remember the
(somewhat cliche )Reason for the Season.

'Peace on earth goodwill towards men!!'

New Priminster in November!!

(left)The smile that says it all!!
New Prime Minister Gary Hoyte celebrates success at the polls with his colleagues!!
*n.b Our photographer needs to set his camera.
Is it really November already?

Well it is, which means the year is quickly drawing to a close ,and what a year it has been thus far, for Team Action Parliamentary Assembly.

They were no posts for the month of October but not because they were was nothing happening,on the contrary, we were so busy that we could scarcely find the time to update this site....our apologies!!

September saw Gary Hoyte and his West Indian Socialist Party victorious at the polls for the first time ever.A low voter turn out resulted in an extremely close election between W.I.S.P and the two other parties.
The Liberals United lost by a solitary vote after the casting vote was made by the electoral officer to break the tie which occurred after the votes had been tallied.

A further two votes down was the former, incumbent Collective Union, seeking an unprecedented third term in office.

October was filled with activities, including a national debate on the C.S.M.E and its relevance to the youth, as well as a visit by our St.Lucian counterparts for said occasion.

Stay tuned,Much More coming soon!!

The Team Action Parliamentary assembly held its second annual National Youth Symposium on Wednesday June 11 2008 at the Grand Barbados Beach Resort.

The sessions for the day included leadership training done by Mr. Jason Carmichael an entrepreneur, Investment 1 on 1 facilitated by Mr. Selwyn Kellman a Portfolio Manager in Wealth Management with First Caribbean International Bank while Sgt. Exams will be over soon!!

Soon couldn't come quickly enough for school populations across Barbados but it will come eventually. The wonderful Month of May is coming to close and therefore it's the middle of the Exam period for most. However, some of us (U.W.I"student Adults") would have already finished our examinations by the time of this writing ,a lucky lot !

G.P.A are the three most important letters for many of our friends at the end of this period

So finishing first doesn't mean you can't finish last in the end *p.s Its called a paradox

Some of you are still struggling to come to the grips with the acronym of C.A.P.E who think the "Caribbean bit" should be replaced by Regional, there by making the acronym suitable for the mental torture it represents. *p.s 'rape is a lot better than murder"

To those who believe CXCs are the most imortant thing in their young lives,IT IS! but only for right now ,Believe it or not there is life after CXC.....

Others are wondering about the purpose of CXC exams are they legitimate job qualifications or are they simply prerequisites for tertiary education.Either way you look at it you still need to pass these exams. p.s* "It gets harder from here on end."

I think that covers everyone or maybe not, so for those of you trying to make it past your final promotion exams.Read the above and consider your choices wisely, e.g" Do I want find myself in an uncomfortable place next year ? or Do I want to find myself in the same place?"

*p.s "prolonging the agony may prolong the agony"-yet another paradox

The Executive of Team Action Parliametary Assembly takes this opportunity to wish our members good luck and success in their variuos examinations."And on that motion of conclusion may I add I look forward to seeing you On Friday June the 6th for our next session.-" Me thinks the I's Have it!"

History of Team Action pt.6

(left) young women took their place as top debaters during the prize giving ceremony of Team Action's curtain event of 2006.
Team Action rounded off a fine 2006 by facilitating an Inter-School debate in association with The Bureau for Gender Affairs etitled "Woman Take Your Place."

The debate was centered around gender issues such as "Domestic violence"and "Gender roles."

Schools taking part in the competition were The Garrison Secondary,Deighton Griffith Memorial,

St.James Secondary and the Combermere School.

Each school fielded a team of three participants who took part in parliametary-styled debate which was modified to suit the competiton.

The Judging Panel was made up of three judges one of whom was an executive member of Team Action ,while the other was a teacher and the chief was representative form the Bureau of Gender Affairs, the Chairperson was also an executive member of Team Action .

After three rounds of intense competiton,The Garrison, Deighton Griffith and Combermere entered the finals in a three-way battle for debating supremacy.

Held at the Queen's College several prizes were up for grabs in the finals. The team from Combermere emerged victorious, while the Garrison took second spot just ahead of third place finishers Deighton Griffith.

Despite the Combermerians taking the top prize, a garrisonian who was also a member of Team Action took the top individual prize.

History of Team Action pt.5

(left)
Members of
Team Action
along
with their
St.Lucian
colleagues.

November of 2006 saw Team Action leave the shores of Barbados to venture into the Eastern Caribbean. They landed in neighbouring St.Lucia, where they would be taking part in debate on Regional Youth Policy.

After immersing in St.Lucian culture through attendance of a street party and an island tour, members were ready to settle down to the serious business of mapping a regional youth policy, members would be debating students of the Vide Boutille Secondary School.

After several training sessions a decision was taken in the spirit of caribbean unity to mix the two groups to form a government and an opposition.

Emerging from debate, both parties came to the conclusion that the youth of the region were in need of assistance from the powers that be, in terms of development.Initiatives were suggested to aid in the areas of education, health, social etc.

It was through this consensus that members realised their St.Lucian colleagues had the same goals and objectives,as a result a St.Lucian chapter of Team Action Parliamentary Assembly was formed.

History of Team Action pt.4

(left)Participants in the Red Ribbon Invitational Speech Competiton pose with their prizes.

The next major event on the Team Action calendar was taking part in the Red Ribbon Invitaional Speech Competition.

This event was as a result of the Garrison Octagon Debating Club and Team Action working in collaboration with each other.

With the topic being HIV/AIDS some would have thought the speeches would sound cliche, but members got creative and came up with some original sounding material.

Two members of Team Action took away top prizes.

History of Team Action pt.3

(left some of the members who attended the retreat along with a member of the Barbados Defence Force who conducted atraining session in first aid.)

Next for the Team Action Parliamentary Assembly was the BAJENAID retreat.

This event was held in the picturesque St.Lawerence Gap .

During the weekend members got a chance to bond with each other in between several training sessions.

This event did much for the camraderie of members of the assembly.Through this close interaction with each other they were no longer just colleagues but became friends.

History of Team Action pt.2

(left)The beautiful ,charismatic and dynamic Rosette Moore was the Assembly's First Prime Minister.

The newly formed Assembly would meet on Friday afternoons at the Y.M.C.A for a weekly debate and to chart the course of the organisation for the future. It was during this time that three parties were formed. The Liberals,The Collective and the Correctivists.

The Liberals secured majority support forming the first government with Rosette Moore as their leader.
The Collective with Andre Layne as leader formed the official opposition ,while Kyle Prescod rallied the support of the remaining candidates to form The Correctivist.

The Correctivist set the precedent for third parties to follow. It was decided that independent candidates would band together to form a coalition third party. This system made sure that neither government nor opposition would abuse their powers.

(left)Members of the Government in the ground-breaking national debate on the C.S.M.E

C.S.M.E Wha' really goin' on !

Team Action Parliamentary Assembly's (unofficial) first event was a national debate on the C.S.M.E .Back then, we were known as the Team Action Debating Assembly but that was soon to change.

With members drawn from a variety of secondary institutions, the debate promised to be an exciting one as a variety of perspectives would be brought on the matter at hand.

Held at the Frank Collymore Hall in February of 2006 it was deemed a success and the debaters decided to stay together and form the group we have today.
